July 2008
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer! We have been having a blast at Mountainfreak.net getting ready for this issue. A lot of time was spent in Helen this month..taking in the Wormsloew show at Bigg Daddy's after a great lunch, tubing on the 'hooch, and just having a good time taking in the sights and people. We even caught the Flag Day Shriner's Parade in a downpour.
I've been on a personal quest to find the best BBQ in the north Georgia mountains, and I have found a contender for the title in Jasper. Bub-Ba-Q is featured on this months' Eat & Shop page. From Bub-Ba-Q we left out for Carter's Lake and took some photos for our Outdoors page. I really like the Jasper area, "Georgia's First Mountain City", and am looking forward to spending more time there this summer.
This is the 6 month anniversary of Mountainfreak.net. We started with five pages in January, and this month we add our tenth (and last for a while), the Mountainfreak Borders page. Mountainfreak Borders will focus on attractions in our neighboring mountain states of Tennessee, North and South Carolina. We will, as always, depend heavily on our readers for contributing articles, photos and suggestions as we get this page off and running. This month we have a report on rafting the Ocoee River in Tennessee contributed by a reader and friend.
Another great reader contribution this month comes from the Lake Burton area. Michael Hay and his family visited Pazzo Pizzeria and sent us a great review and some photos from this popular north Georgia mountain eatery and music venue.
Finally, in response to the many email inquiries I have recieved about cabin rentals and lodging in the mountains...I decided to let the market come to us by offering a free classifieds section on our Advertisers page for the folks who have lodging to offer. We are happy to have First Class Cabin Rentals as our first free classified advertiser for this section. They came highly recommended....if you have stayed in a vacation rental in the mountains you were happy with, let the owners know and ask them to place a free ad with us so you can share your good find!
Thanks for visiting our site, and please contact me if you have any suggestions, contributions or if we can help you in any way.
Hope you enjoy!
