We made our way up to the visitors center at the peak of Brasstown Bald early Saturday morning 4/26. We were here with friends to witness the end of the Blairsville to Brasstown Bald leg of the Tour de Georgia and especially to see Neil Shirley of the Jittery Joe's Racing Team-from our hometown of Athens, Georgia. It was quite a spectacle, by the time the racers were approaching there must have been 5000 people around the Brasstown Bald visitors center and the last half mile of the road leading up. This was our first time witnessing the Tour de Georgia and we were amazed by these athletes as they climbed to the nearly 5,000' elevation to our location near the top of the mountain. We will certainly try to see more of this race in upcoming years and would recommend taking it in to all of your readers.
