Reader Review of Piazza Italian Restaurant in Dahlonega

During a recent trip to Dahlonega, I had an opportunity to sample some Italian fare at Piazza. Being an Italian food fanatic of Irish descent, I am always on the lookout for a great red sauce and glass of Chianti. The restaurant was suitably crowded for a Saturday night, so that was a good sign. Although several groups were ahead of us, the 15-20 minute wait that the hostess warned us of held true. The interior was ok, the low lighting giving the ambiance a certain romantic quality. The tables are pretty close together, however, so don’t expect to have a totally private conversation.
After perusing the menu for a few minutes, our highly nervous (and obviously new) waiter took our orders. I ordered the Veal Parmesan, while my friend chose the egg plant version. The house salad came out first, along with some bread and olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was fresh and good.  I enjoyed the salad, although it could have used a few more tomatoes and a few fewer onions, but that’s a personal preference. Nice olive oil dressing, though. The entrees came next, and a little too quickly. The quality of the food was good, although for $17.95, my veal portion could have been a little larger. The red sauce, however, was a winner, nice and flavorful. The veal was tender and cooked well, not overdone. My friend seemed to enjoy her eggplant as well. The food may not have been quite as good as I have gotten in Boston’s North End, but then again, I was in North Georgia, not North Boston. All in all I was pleased……a definite revisit is in order.

The Clayton Cafe

The Clayton Cafe has the best fried chicken on earth!  Great meat & 3 with everything homemade... and desserts are just like grandma used to make. Come early for lunch to avoid the line...but even if you can't the food is worth waiting for. The locals are friendly and it is a great place to ask about local attractions or events!
Don't come on Sunday- no one will be there, but if you do stop by tell Linda we said hello!

Photo Contribution of the Month

I picked one of my own photos this month-While taking photos for the Black Rock Mountain State Park article, I decided to get some water from the artesian well in the park...as I got closer I notice the "day-glo" moss growing all over the fountain and snapped this shot.
