The Highest State Park In Georgia
Black Rock Mountain State Park
Black Rock Mountain State Park, overlooking the town of Clayton, Georgia, has been a favorite camping and recreation spot for me over the years. I took my son to Black Rock on one of his first mountain camping trips a few years ago and it was a baptism by fire- snow, sleet, hail, cold rain - and this was at the end of April! He was not deterred by the experience, however, and the park remains one of his favorites as well.
Camping and hiking are the two big attractions on the top of Black Rock Mountain. Campers enjoy spacious campsites with all the amenities and hikers take advantage of an extensive trail system that can cater to both the novice and experienced. Just down the mountain and actually outside the main park, Black Rock Lake is another attraction the park has to offer. Black Rock Lake is stocked with bass, trout, and bream...and is a perfect place to take a kid fishing.

We will be heading up the the park in June when school is out to do a little tent camping. Nights are cool in the summer at 3400 ft. elevation....but there is no threat of snow! For more infomation about Black Rock Mountain State Park, here is the link to their website.
